With the end of the CBP One app, plus the elimination of asylum, humanitarian parole, and other regular and orderly migration pathways, thousands of migrants have been left in limbo, forcing them to risk dangerous returns, seek asylum in other countries, or wait indefinitely in precarious conditions. Despite the administration’s headline-grabbing deterrence campaigns, the forces driving migration remain unchanged. These tactics may suppress numbers in the short term, but they don’t erase the reasons people flee. Migration is not a choice made lightly or for convenience—it’s a response to violence, poverty and instability. As long as those conditions persist…”
