Port-au-Prince’s request came as the security support mission has not been able to raise enough voluntary contributions to reach its planned headcount (2,500 members) or receive the equipment needed to effectively curb the gangs. In response, the U.N. Security Council asked Secretary-General António Guterres for a report laying out the possible ways for the United Nations to step up support to Haiti.
