What Developments Will Shape 2025 in Latin America?

  • The past year has been marked by major news stories in Latin America and the Caribbean. Among them, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro claimed a re-election victory in a disputed vote, Mexicans elected Claudia Sheinbaum as the country’s first female president, and Kenyan police arrived in Haiti to head an international force that faces a tough battle to help wrest control of the country back from gangs. In the United States, the election of Donald Trump as president could mean major changes in U.S. policy toward the region.
