What Will Passage of Milei’s Reforms Mean for Argentina?

Kezia McKeague, managing director at McLarty Associates: “The passage of President Milei’s reform legislation and tandem fiscal package lends political weight to the administration’s ongoing efforts to restore economic stability and stimulate investment. Despite the legislation’s dilution during months-long negotiations, including removal of provisions to privatize several state companies, it retained market-friendly reforms that include incentives for large investments and loosening of labor laws. Investors are most enthused about the RIGI incentive framework, which provides tax, customs and foreign exchange benefits to qualifying investment projects over $200 million. Valid for 30 years, RIGI particularly appeals to foreign investors eying Argentina’s dynamic mining and energy sectors. If paired with the government’s promised repeal of capital controls, the framework could help attract an influx of FDI in the coming years. Additional reforms loosen…”
