Despite the legislation’s dilution during months-long negotiations, including removal of provisions to privatize several state companies, it retained market-friendly reforms that include incentives for large investments and loosening of labor laws. Investors are most enthused about the RIGI incentive framework, which provides tax, customs and foreign exchange benefits to qualifying investment projects over $200 million. Valid for 30 years, RIGI particularly appeals to foreign investors eying Argentina’s dynamic mining and energy sectors.
