How Are Rising Immigration Rates Affecting Chile?

The number of businesses owned by foreigners in Chile tripled over the last decade, according to a study published by independent research groups Espacio Público and the Centro de Políticas Migratorias. Of the nearly 40,000 businesses that were created in 2013, 3.1 percent were owned by foreigners. A decade later, that figure stood at 11.4 percent. Today, it is 11.6 percent amid continued growth of the country’s migrant population. What’s behind the increase in immigration and foreign-owned businesses in Chile? To what extent have government policies affected this growth? What effect has the growth of foreign-owned businesses in Chile had on consumers, competition and the country’s economy in general?
