Vice President Alckmin’s appointment as minister of industry and trade appears to be a good choice for the government’s interaction with private sector and with external trading partners. Noteworthy are the appointments of Nisia Trindade and Camilo Santana as health and education ministers, respectively. Both areas are high priorities for Lula’s government, and the appointments put the ministries in excellent hands. Lula has 37 ministries, a high number, at the outset of his administration.
