For my part, I wish to underscore that the challenges pointed out are not new, and it is important to bear in mind some key considerations. To effectively fight unlawful activities, the government is moving forward with land regularization and the distribution of property titles. Land ownership rights must be determined in order for law enforcement authorities to carry out their work. Between 2019 and 2021, resources invested by Funai in land regularization more than doubled over the 2016-2018 period. We must also take into account the difficulties inherent in surveilling an area of abundant natural resources and whose landmass is more than six times the size of the state of Texas. As the Brazilian government reinforces its oversight capacity, an initial $30 million was invested to install multiagency air bases in the Amazonian states of Pará, Amazonas and Rondônia for rapid response to…”
