What Factors Are Driving Chile’s Mortgage Rates?

  • Chile’s average mortgage rate fell below 4 percent in April, the lowest interest rate since November 2021, according to data released by the central bank in early May. While government subsidies implemented during the administration of former President Gabriel Boric have helped to push the average mortgage rate down, the country’s construction industry is still struggling, and a large number of unsold properties remain on the market, Bloomberg News reported. What is the outlook for mortgage interest rates in Chile over the coming months, and what factors will influence them?
