What Is Driving Insurtech’s Growth in Latin America?

Hugues Bertin, CEO and founder of Digital Insurance LatAm: “Brazil is the most attractive market for insurtech, with 212 million inhabitants and the ninth-largest economy in the world. Mexico is also attractive due to its proximity to the United States, with 130 million inhabitants. Plus, there are 30 million Mexicans living in the United States. Additionally, STEM talent is highly recognized globally, with outstanding innovators in countries such as Argentina and Brazil. Insurtech valuations are also relatively low in Latin America as compared to other regions. The types of insurance that are seeing the most growth via insurtech platforms include mandatory products designed to be sold through such platforms, such as basic car insurance coverage. Also seeing growth is embedded insurance, such as extended warranties sold through e-retailers, ticket insurance on concert platforms and travel insurance sold with airline tickets.
