What’s the Outlook for Renewable Energy in Argentina?

Alfonso Blanco, director of the Energy Transition and Climate Program at the Inter-American Dialogue: “The extension of federal tax incentives for renewable energy projects until 2045, combined with greater openness in wholesale market contracts, sends a signal of policy continuity that may help to reduce the cost of capital for projects and bring more dynamism to renewable transactions in a country long characterized by macroeconomic volatility. Yet these measures, by themselves, are insufficient to unlock the sector’s full potential or to build a genuine renewable ecosystem. Tariff arrears in certain consumer segments continue to distort prices and weaken the signals needed for structural transformation. Transmission infrastructure gaps limit the use of Argentina’s abundant solar and wind resources, restrictions on capital flows persist and state planning has been sidelined …”
