How Will a New Oil Pipeline Affect Vaca Muerta’s Output?

Mariano Machado, Americas principal analyst at Verisk Maplecroft: “Vaca Muerta’s consolidation has the potential to rewire the Southern Cone’s energy landscape, but only if Argentina carries out synchronous, sustained changes. Oil exports surged to a record 245,000 barrels per day in early 2025—up 42 percent year-on-year, with nearly 80 percent sourced from the Neuquén Basin. If infrastructure roll out takes place on time, hydrocarbon exports could top $30 billion annually by 2031, tripling relative to current levels. The Vaca Muerta South Pipeline (VMOS) is a $2.5 billion project financed under the new Regime for Large Investments and will be a structural enabler that removes critical logistical constraints.
