Through the PEG-5 auction—Guatemala’s most ambitious procurement to date—the government seeks to contract 1,400 megawatts of new capacity, including at least 700 megawatts of LNG-based firm power. Guatemala’s current energy mix relies heavily on hydropower and renewables. However, recurring climate change effects have undermined reliability and exposed system vulnerabilities.
