      Accountability in urban school systems

We are pleased to share with you the materials of a recent event held at the American Enterprise Institute, about District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor, Michelle Rhee. At this event, Rhee discusses the obstacles that she is facing in improving accountability in an urban school system.

Since taking office in June 2007, the chancellor has enacted reforms to: (i) identify and weed out DCPS employees in who are not doing their job; (ii) recruit, prepare, and retain effective teachers; and (iii) make DCPS responsive to schools’ needs. Event materials include a brief summary, an audio and a video podcasts, and a full transcript of Rhee’s presentation. You may access these materials on Michelle Rhee at the website of the American Enterprise Institute.
