Accountability in education and student achievement

We are pleased to share with you two articles published recently in The Washington Post. The first one presents the preliminary results of the latest student achievement test in Washington, DC, which indicate that schools in the district are improving much more and faster than they have in recent years.

The second article discusses the factors that may explain these improvements. This article concludes that, although it is not possible to determine exactly how the accountability reforms implemented by school chancellor Michelle Rhee have improved student achievement, these initiatives certainly seem to be on the right track.
